Picking Black and White images for your
Wedding Album
It's an interesting question that I'm often asked as in the of film shooting a photographer often had to choose if they were going to shoot ing black and white or colour but couldn't do both. That's all changed with digital technology now and in all our packages we make both versions of every image. But then it comes time to printing and you have to choose which prints to do in what way. Here are a few tips to help you select:
Is the photograph about emotion or an object?
Black and white photography really lends itself well to emotional shots. A teary bride (or groom), a shot of grandma laughing or a couple dancing together as husband and wife for the first time. B&W forces the viewer to look at the people rather than the whacky fluorescent orange dress Auntie Betty is wearing in the background.
Colour is obviously the first choice of photography for things like flowers, food, or compositions that the colour is playing a starring role such as a couple standing in a sunflower field.
With the cost of printing being so little these days, and quite easy, you can got nuts and get both versions made but when I'm doing the prints I'll normally print all candids in B&W, most of the ceremony in B&W and all the formals in colour and B&W. Hope that helps!
